Whaddon Parish Council welcomed a large crowd of residents, families and friends to its D-Day+80 Beacon of Peace on the evening of 6th June 2024 on Windy Ridge. Everyone enjoyed a relaxed evening with picnics and drinks while waiting with great anticipation for the Beacon to be lit at 9.15pm. The weather was kind and the rain held off.

Rev. Jacqueline Dove gave a very moving tribute to those who fought and died in June 1944, and a moment of silence was conducted to remember all for their bravery and service.

The Beacon was lit promptly at 9.15pm which was a spectacular sight, visible for miles around. Huge thanks go to the Beacon Building Team for all their enthusiasm and hard work. Thanks too to our wonderful local farmer who kindly permitted the use of the field.

A small collection raised £104.31 for the benefit of the Village Hall.

It was a great evening enjoyed by all who came along and a fitting tribute to the Heros and Heroines of WWII.
